Saint Paul

The boarding school Thien An and the kindergarten Thien Phuc for disadvantaged kids are managed by the nuns from the catholic missionary order Saint Paul de Chartres.

These Vietnamese nuns put their faith into practice and  are doing a lot of charity projects, like the care of patients with leprosy around Pleiku, distribution of food packages, care of outcast pregnant women, care of foundlings and handicapped children and more.

In Pleiku the nuns from Saint Paul de Chartres take care of about 500 poor kids who live in a number of boarding schools in and around the city. They also visit on a regular basis 60 small leper villages around Pleiku to take care of about 600 leprosy patients, who are otherwise left to die.

The Catholic missionary order Saint Paul de Chartres, which was originally founded in France as the oldest missionary order of women,  has put their first step in Vietnam in 1860.  Not long after that the fast growing congregation started doing work on helping orphans, sick and disadvantaged people all over the country. At this moment around 1000 sisters work all over Vietnam on countless charity projects.

In 1975 the Vietnamese government nationalized all schools, hospitals, clinics and various social welfare institutions of the congregation.  Although the buildings were confiscated  and the administration was taken over by the communist government many sisters could continue doing their work.

Kindergarten
In 1990 the Congregation has been given the license to operate kindergartens. These were successful from the start among the Vietnamese and especially among the dignitaries. Operating rules are very strict and religious education is prohibited.

Nowadays practicing of religion is allowed by law in Vietnam and  people openly show their faith being it Buddhist, Catholic or otherwise.
